Announcing Honeycomb Maps for Google Drive: helping you create free, interactive and easy-to-share maps
Summary
Create maps without leaving Google Drive
Our goal at Honeycomb Maps is to make location data easy to use and share. We brought our maps to Snowflake to let large enterprises like Wolt create powerful, interactive map dashboards.
But many people and businesses don’t operate at this scale and don’t require nearly as sophisticated data architectures: they have data and want to analyze it - simply and quickly. That’s why we’re launching Honeycomb Maps for Google Drive.
Honeycomb Maps for Drive lets you create interactive maps directly within Google Drive. These maps live fully within your Drive and sit alongside all your other files, so you can create maps and share them just like a Google Doc or Google Slides. This opens up many exciting possibilities:
- Sales leaders can take a map of customer locations from Google Sheets and draw equally-valued sales territories
- Service companies like electricians and plumbers can create maps showing the status of service calls, which update as issues are resolved and new calls come in
- Real estate companies can build maps showing parcels alongside H3 home values and securely share them with partners
Use Google Sheets as a live data source
When you create a Honeycomb Map in Google Drive, you can add data to the map from a Google Sheet or .geojson, .kml, and .csv files stored in in your Google Drive.
The ability to add data directly from a Google Sheet is especially powerful, as it means that any changes to the Google Sheet will immediately be reflected on the map (as soon as it is reloaded). This opens up powerful workflows, like a live outage tracker map for a utility company, or an available properties map for a real estate firm.
Leverage Google Drive's sharing capabilities
Share your Honeycomb Maps just like any other Drive file - with yourself, friends, colleagues, customers, or anyone else with the link.
Securing web maps and their data is often one of the most difficult parts of building interactive maps and a major barrier to broad adoption.
With Honeycomb Maps for Drive, the data on the map stays in your Google Drive and never touches our servers. When a map is loaded, your web browser fetches data directly from Drive using Google’s OAuth APIs.
You can even embed shared maps into an iframe on your website, for free. You can see examples of how this looks in our new gallery. We offer more powerful integration options on our enterprise plan.
